Underground Road Crossing Installation

Criteria for crossing municipal roads:

  1. Pavement to be saw-cut a minimum width of 6 feet and excavated to a minimum depth of 6 feet.
  2. Fill to be removed and a minimum of 6 inch sleeve (pipe) installed full width of road to accommodate waterline, power line or other.
  3. Pipe to be backfilled with sand and compacted. Trench to be backfilled with 12 inches of "B" gravel and 6 inches of "A" gravel, which are to be compacted. 3 inches of rolled hot mix is to be placed on top.
  4. This Agreement shall come into effect upon signing and the posting of a Performance Bond to the Public Works Department of the Municipaltiy of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
  5. The Performance Bond will be as per the Fees and Charges By-Law, as adopted by Council, for the current year.
  6. All culverts or sleeves installed will become the property of the Municipality upon final acceptance of the works.
  7. Any cost sharing of the crossing is the responsibility of the owners.

Please notify the Public Works Manager prior to commencing work so arrangements can be made for a Roads employee(s) to be present. 

Application Fee

Security deposit of $750.00 to be presented to the Municipality. A maximum of $500.00 is refundable, up to two years from completion of work. Once work is considered complete, please provide written notice to the Public Works Manager and request that the work be inspected.

It is understood that all works will be constructed, altered, maintained or operated at the owner's expense. No work shall commence until a permit has been issued. The issuance of this permit does not relieve the holder of the responsibility of complying with Municipal by-laws. 

In consideration of this Application, I/we the Applicant(s) hereby agree to observe and comply with regulations set forth in this permit and save harmless the Municipality from all costs, charges, damages and claims whatsoever to which may arise from the issuance of this permit. 

Failure to comply with terms set out in this permit shall warrant the removal of said construction at the owner's expense.
