Guidelines
Residential property guidelines:
- Entrances shall have a width of 3 metres (9.8 feet) minimum and 6 metres (19.6 feet) maximum.
- Entrances shall not be located closer than 1 metre (3.2 feet) to the side property line.
- One entrance up to the first 30 metres (98 feet) of frontage measured along the roadway. For each additional 30 metres (98 feet) of frontage, not more than 1 additional driveway.
Non-residential property guidelines:
- Entrances shall have a width of 3 metres (9.8 feet) minimum and 9 metres (29.5 feet) maximum.
- Entrances shall not be located closer than 3 metres (9.8 feet) to a lot containing a dwelling as its primary use.
- One entrance up to the first 30 metres (98 feet) of frontage measured along the roadway. For each additional 30 metres (98 feet) of frontage, not more than 1 additional driveway.
Design Standards
Entrance grades shall be consistent with the applicable Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings, such as OPSD 301.010, 301.020, 301.030.
If the length of the roadway into the property is greater than 91 meters (300 feet), due to the length of the roadway a turnaround shall be provided having no less than a 120 ft (36.6 m) outside diameter as per the provisions in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard, 1147 Standard for Fire Protection Infrastructure for Land Development in Wildland, Rural, and Suburban Areas.
Culverts
During processing of your Application, the Public Works Department will determine if a driveway culvert is required at your entrance. If a culvert is required, the minimum size (width and length) will be noted on your Permit. The purchase, installation and maintenance of driveway culverts, is the responsibility of the property owner.
Permit Fees
Cost of Entrance Permit:
$100.00 prior to installation (no HST)
$300.00 if a permit is not obtained prior to installation (no HST)
Cost of Civic Address Permit:
$150.00 (no HST) - includes installation
Cost of combined Entrance and Civic Address Permits:
$200.00 (no HST)
Applications will not be processed until such time as the appropriate permit fee has been remitted. Payment can be made by cash, debit/credit or cheque at the Municipal Office or by credit card over the phone. Please call the Municipal Office to make payment over the phone. Please provide the property's Assessment Roll Number when making payment.
