Application for Permission for Exemption to Tent and Trailer

Pursuant to By-law 2018-66, no person shall occupy a recreational trailer, trailer or tent without first making application for a temporary trailer agreement on the prescribed form, submit the completed application to the Municipality, provide the required fee, where applicable, in order to obtain Council’s approval.

The only instince that would not require exemption approval is that of camping in tents, trailer and/or motor homes where a residential home or cottage exists that satisfies the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and Municipal Zoning By-law, provided that there are no more than a combination of two (2) tents, trailers and/or motor homes for no longer than seven (7) consecutive days.

Special Events: This application applies to a group or individual(s) that are seeking permission to be exempt from the provisions of this By-law for special occasions such as scouts/guides events, family reunions, etc. There is typically no charge for such request, unless Council determines necessary.

Tent and Trailer Agreement (Building): This application also applies to temporary trailer agreements issued for temporary occupancy of a recreational vehicle, trailer or tent while a dwelling is being constructed, once a building permit has been issued. The applicant shall deposit a permit fee of one-thousand dollars ($1,000.00) and a deposit fee of one-thousand dollars ($1,000.00), totalling a sum of two-thousand dollars ($2,000.00). This agreement is valid for one (1) year from the date the Agreement is signed. Should the construction exceed the first year, the applicant would need to extend for an additional year, and would therefore forfeit the one-thousand dollar ($1,000.00) deposit fee. The agreement cannot exceed two years.

After expiry, the recreational vehicle, trailer or tent must be removed from the property and if it is not, the applicant and/or owner shall be considered in violation of this By-law.

If you have any questions or require clarification in this regard, please contact the Building Department.
